Manufacturing Laboratories, Inc. specializes in high performance machining and
machine tools. MLI was started in 1987 by Jiri Tlusty a
world-renowned researcher in the area of high-speed machining and vibrations. The company
has built several high-performance machine tools and accessories as well as
developed a full line of machine measurement, monitoring and control equipment
for machine tools. A partial list of historical milestones are listed here
- 1989 Release of first commercially available DOS based Milling
Simulation Package MilSim
- 1990 Introduction of unique PTP graphs for chatter evaluation
and generation of lobing diagrams.
- 1991 Phase II Air Force Spindle award results in development
of first comprehensive Cutting Performance Analyzer (CPA) Dos Based.
- 1992 First commercially installed Chatter vibration
monitoring and AVOIDANCE package delivered to Makino customer (trademark CRAC
for Chatter Avoidance and recognition system)
- 1992 CPA renamed MTDA and marketed to OEM manufacturers
- 1992 Spindle Analysis (SPA) Package and Milling Simulation (MilSim)
packages delivered to automotive customers.
- 1993 CPA system renamed MTDA for Machine Tool
Dynamic Analyzer
- 1996 Overall redesign of MTDA system to Windows
platform. Renamed MetalMAX. System contains PC based CRAC system called
Harmonizer®
- 1997 PROACC Service begun for delivering
consulting based services using the MetalMAX system.
- 1998 ProAcc database package developed and
included in MetalMAX kit to track and manage results
- 1998 State of the Art signal interface module (SIM)
developed for MetalMAX product.
- 2001 ProACC renamed CHiPS service after CHiPS
dynamic tool management system.
- 2003 Major redesign of MetalMAX software
completed.
Currently MLI's primary products are
vibration analysis equipment, machining and analysis software packages, and force,
position, and speed control systems. The vast majority of MLIs
customers are Fortune 100 manufacturers. Its premier analysis tool for machine tool
dynamics is MetalMAXTM.
Many popular
seminars in high-speed machining and vibration measurement
utilize its equipment for training.
Its consulting service, CHiPSTM, provides customers with all the
necessary information to maximize performance of their high-speed machining
systems. Its premier control product,
Harmonizer®, provides
the most direct means of selecting chatter resistant spindle speeds.
